I am very thankful for being blessed with wonderful
children. My daughter Unna was the 1st Honor last year in Grade 1.
This school year I enrolled Unno, he was accelerated to Kinder 2, at the age 3
he can already read a book that is recommended for age 5 though he’s never been
to school before. And Unno’s first language is English. But me and my husband
are both Filipino and we are just average parents not geniuses.

My kids' latest awards in school, Unna is in Grade2 and Unno is in Kinder2 |
So let’s start, these are the ways I did with my
kids. Others I have researched to complete the list. And I will practice it to
them, hoping they will be successful in life.
1.
Breastfeeding. Babies who are breastfed for at least a
year grow up to be significantly more intelligent as adults.
2.
While they are still babies, be sure they get good
sleep for brain development.
3.
Nap time is important. A refreshing break for the
brain. I did this routine everyday after lunch. I carry them on our swing until
5 years old. Their mind absorbs better after a nap.
4.
Feed them with natural healthy foods.
5.
As much as possible make your own baby food. Just add a
fresh cut of vegetable to the rice cooker. Then separate the veggie from the
rice and mash it.
6. Avoid foods that are canned or processed.
7. Be in good shape it increases the ability to learn. After exercise people pick up new vocabulary words 20% faster.
8. Read with them. So they can speak the words and be familiar with them.
9.
Be the parent tutor to your children.
10. If
you could, be a stay home mom, it would much better for your kids.
11. Guide
them to have study habits.
12. Self-discipline beats
IQ at predicting who will be successful in life.
13. Willpower is the single most important keystone habit for individual success.
14. Check
their notebooks, seatwork, worksheets, assignments.
15. Talk
about anything with them aside from school.
16. Have
happy moments together.
17. Spend
most of your time with your kids not the yaya.
18. Monitor
what they watch in tv and what they play on the computer and phones.
19. Download
educational videos like nursery rhymes, bed time stories, alphabet and number
songs, phonics, etc.
20. On
your computer bookmark websites such as Disney Jr., Nick Jr, PBS Kids Word
World, etc. so they know where they go to play and learn in the internet.
21. Play
with your kids.
22. Don’t
spend so much on toys but on time. What’s an expensive toy if they don’t have a
playmate.
23. Investing
time and effort especially in the early years provide a steady foundation for
lifelong learning and may prevent future problems.
24. Make
sure each child has a set time and his own private space to study.
25. Turn
off all possible distractions, invest in good lighting and make sure that
children develop a solid routine for daily study.
26. Invest
in educational references and resources. Wait for book sales and book fairs, or
patronize second-hand shops.
27. Inculcate
a love of reading in your children.
28. Make reading a bedtime ritual.
29. Instill
in your child the belief that he makes his own success (but be there to guide
them necessary).
30. Effort
is more important than whatever innate ability he may possess.
31. Encourage
him to do his best.
32. Inspire
him with real-life accounts of people who have done well because of
perseverance and hard work.
33. We
support our child even when (and especially when) he gets low grades and help
him do better next time.
34. Do
not compare children with other siblings or peers, but when they do well, it
doesn’t hurt to relay the news to friends and family!
35. Discipline
your children with love.
36. Cool
down your anger before you discuss the disciplinary action. Sit down and talk
when you’re not mad.
37. Always
hear both sides when there are problems.
38. Be
the best role model for your children.
39. Set
the rules and corresponding disciplinary action when these rules are disobeyed.
But that should be agreed upon by each member of the family.
40. Wise
parents invest in other lessons, such as music, arts, sports, etc. to help the
children develop their personal goals.
41. Attend
your child’s extracurricular activities in school. Musical play, poem recital, sports, etc.
42. Have
dinner time together.
43. Exchange
ideas, even if your kids’ opinions conflict your own.
44. Hug
one another. It warms the heart and gives a little bit of peace of mind.
45. Treat
your kids a price for their hard work or an excellent performance.
46. Happy
kids = Successful kids.
47. Have
a smart peer group for your kids.
48. Believe
in your kids.
49. Teach
your kids to think through problems and innovate solutions on their own.
50. Be
obedient to God and all the rest will follow, according to His will. Thank Him
for giving your greatest blessing…your children.
I’ve learned during my research is that, Smart kids
are products of good parenting. Though some maybe the genes, others can be
developed through encouragement, support, and perseverance. A child’s success
is a parent’s pride.
